What Stripe Does

Stripe powers online invoice payments in Pipeline. Once connected, customers can pay invoices through a secure checkout page with card payments and supported wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay where Stripe can offer them.

Before You Start

You need:

  • A Stripe account for the business receiving payments
  • Permission to connect apps in Pipeline
  • Online invoice payments enabled in your Pipeline payment settings
  • At least one invoice with an outstanding balance

Connect Stripe

  1. Open Pipeline and go to Settings
  2. Select Apps
  3. Find the Stripe card
  4. Click Connect
  5. Complete the Stripe setup steps
  6. Return to Pipeline when Stripe redirects you back
  7. Check the Stripe card shows Connected

Enable Online Payments

After Stripe is connected, open Company Settings and check the payment settings. Online invoice payments must be enabled before payment buttons are shown to customers.

Taking a Payment

Open an invoice and use either Send Invoice or Send Payment Link. The public invoice page will show a Pay Invoice Online button when the invoice has an outstanding balance and online payments are enabled.

What Happens After Payment

When Stripe confirms a successful payment, Pipeline records the payment against the invoice, updates the invoice status to paid or part-paid, stores Stripe fee details where available, and notifies the user.

Troubleshooting

  • If the payment button is missing, check Stripe is connected and online payments are enabled
  • If checkout cannot start, check the invoice has an outstanding balance
  • If payments are not recording back in Pipeline, check the Stripe webhook endpoint is configured for the live environment
  • If wallets do not appear, check the customer's device, browser and Stripe payment method settings
